Graduate challenge: Optimize the future

Teamwork

About the Hackathon

The Graduate challenge: optimize the future is a call for multidisciplinary profiles, from graduates in economics/marketing as well as young experts in digital/IoT technologies (such as engineers, software developers, UI/UX designers), who are enrolled in a Tietoevry curse to compete in a hackathon focused on sustainability.

There will be some deliverables to prepare but you will have a group of mentors at your disposal!

Challenge categories

Please read carefully and select the challenge that you and your teammates will have to do!
The deliverables will be showcased before the beginning of this hackathon.

Challenge 1 – Energy and Tietoevry – opportunities and challenges

Energy efficiency and the ability to avoid causing excess use of energy is a very important current topic.

Based on the team’s reasoning, why is this a key topic that organisations (companies, public sector entities) need to pay attention to? We are addressing this from an organisation’s perspective, not as private individuals or households. What are the tactical/short-term drivers? Which viewpoints would you say dominate the longer perspective?

  • From the perspective of Tietoevry (as a whole, all business lines), what are the major opportunities and challenges related to energy that we face now
  • Why do you consider these to be major ones?
  • In brief, how could we make use of the opportunities?
    • Out-of-the-box thinking is welcome!
  • In brief, how could we tackle the challenges?
    • What needs to change for this to be possible/feasible?

Challenge 1.1 – Energy – the software businesses

If we think about the Tietoevry business lines that manufacture software (Tietoevry Banking, Care, Industry) and other software-centric companies

What do you consider key factors around the energy theme in this type of business?

What categories of improvements around energy do you recommend they should address/could investigate?

Please try to rank by importance/size the topics you bring up.

Are the companies that you consider role models, or ‘best practices that seem to make a good impact?

What have they done right, and are the results verifiable?

What are the energy-related pitfalls that the software industry should avoid or get out of (not indicating that the Tietoevry business is guilty of falling into them 🙂 )?

Challenge 1.2 – Energy – the infrastructure businesses

When we think about the Tietoevry business lines that predominantly provide infrastructure and computing capacity/cloud services (Tietoevry Connect)

  • What are the key aspects relevant from an energy perspective in this business?
  • What do you consider key improvements around energy that they should address?
    1. Why should they do this?
    2. Who benefits the most?
    3. What does this require from the ecosystem around the organisation?
    4. What could be preventing the suggestions you make from happening?

Challenge 1.3 – Energy – the skilled resources businesses

When we think about the Tietoevry business lines that predominantly provide resources and consulting-style services (Tietoevry Create, Transform)

  • What are the key aspects relevant from an energy perspective in this business?
  • What categories of improvements around energy do you recommend that they should make?
    • Please try to rank by impacting the topics you bring up
    • From an energy standpoint, what should they stop doing?

Do you have practical solutions/ideas, that you think customers should
appreciate, even pay extra for?

Challenge 2 – Future security threats affecting companies – security is everyone’s responsibility

Create a process, service, or solution that addresses the future threat landscape with the goal of protecting Tietoevry or one of our customers. The created output should somehow have incorporated that security and keeping secure is everyone’s responsibility.
Some possible security factors and threats you can consider in your output (not necessary to use):
· Artificial Intelligence
· Digital twins
· Robotics
· Internet of Things
· 5G
· Deepfakes
· Disinformation
· Hybrid warfare
· Insider threats
· Activists

Challenge 3 – Sharing knowledge company-wide

“If HP knew what HP knows, we’d be three times more productive”

Lew Platt, former CEO of Hewlett-Packard, reflecting on the importance of Knowledge Management

Tietoevry is a company with 24 000+ employees, spread over 6 businesses in 200+ locations in 20+ countries. We all share a common culture, with Keep Learning being an essential part of it. We achieve together – We learn together.
All of these people and organizational units already possess a wealth of knowledge and generate more each and every minute.
But how can we make it easier to find and utilize this knowledge for the benefit of our customers, for ourselves and for society as a whole?

Challenge 3.1 – Developing a “Keep Learning” culture

How do we continue building a “Keep Learning” Culture, where it’s considered valuable not only to build your own knowledge and skills, but also to share and help others to grow?
How do we get everyone to engage in this, especially considering the potential conflicts with “regular work” and billability requirements?
How do we identify the areas where it’s most important to build knowledge and skills
· for each individual?
· for the different organizational units?
· for Tietoevry as a whole?

How can we help people to overcome mental barriers to sharing, such as not realizing that they have something to offer or focussing on their own personal development?

Challenge 3.2 – Capturing and finding knowledge

How can we capture knowledge and experience (positive AND negative) from our projects, other assignments, training and other sources to make it available for future use?
How can we make the knowledge – and the people who possess it – findable at the point of capture?
How can we find the knowledge – and the people who possess it – when we need it?
Who are the “we” who need to find knowledge, and do the possible solutions depend on which job role needs it?
· Consultants?
· Sales?
· Line managers?
· Learning admins?
· Community Leads?
· More?

Do the possible solutions depend on the scenarios when we need to find the knowledge, e.g.
· Proposal/Sales?
· Customer deliveries (e.g. projects and other assignments)?
· Competence development?
· Career path planning?
· Competence planning and recruitment?
· Other?

Do the possible solutions depend on where we are when we need the knowledge, e.g.
· In the office?
· Working from home (& hybrid)?
· Working at customer sites?
· Other?
